Christmas Sew and Chat, Members

07 December 2021

As the year comes to an end, it is time to look back at the changes that have happened to our group.

It is a time to celebrate that the transition from the Embroiderers’ Guild to the independent group THREADS – Worcester Stitch and Textile Art Group has gone so smoothly. The success of this has been achieved in no small part by the members who agreed to form a steering group to carry the process through.

We still meet on the first Tuesday of every month but, having the large room at Perdiswell from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm means that there is time to bring along personal projects and sit and stitch, for small demonstrations of techniques, for socialising, for eating lunch and also to listen to talks by visiting Textile Artists. Members can contribute to discussion during the steering group meeting if they wish.

This month, members were able to view two displays of past exhibition work, purple squares and leaves, both demonstrating a huge variety of techniques. After a shared lunch, a Christmas raffle took place to support the group’s finances. Both Waitrose and The Cabin Worcester Picture Framers generously donated prizes for which we are most grateful. Rosemary demonstrated how to make Temari Balls (which Japanese children play with); it is hoped that those completed by members will be brought along to the next meeting.

As to the future, a full programme is planned for 2022.It is hoped that we will take part in a local village fete so that our work may be exhibited or sold and awareness of the group may spread. We have our new fliers which we hope will encourage others to come along and enjoy THREADS.
