Mary’s talk allowed her to share with us work inspired by her local environment – Sibbertoft, Market Harborough – and exotic holidays to places as far afield as Croatia, Turkey, India and Vietnam.
Mary completed City and Guilds’ courses at Kettering. She has continued to enjoy exploring and experimenting with new techniques and working with fellow textile artists on courses such as those led by Angie Hughes. Recent work involves multi –layering, using different fabrics, dyeing, stitching and lots of embellishment.
She opened her talk with a photograph of her working on a piece as she sat looking out over a beautiful lake. Stitching can certainly be an “anytime” occupation. She recommends having a go and finding your own style.
Members enjoyed looking at the variety of work that she had brought along, many of which were based on projects that could be easily hand held.
