A lively start to the New Year, with a good turn-out for informal workshops and a general hive of activity around the room. What a great way to shake off any post-Christmas lethargy! Lynne R and Sara D ran very popular sessions on making flowers from soluble fabric, organza and machine stitches. These gorgeous creations, mounted in cotton reels are destined for a “summer meadow” display at Croome Court.
Across the room, Sian K led a group making felt robins, following the over-subscribed December sessions. The concentration at the tables was intense, and the results exquisite. A tree full of cheeky characters appeared, and this session was so joyful, it helped to convince four of our visitors to join Threads on the spot!
Of course, the creativity didn’t stop there – all kinds of stitching happening, including tatting and knitting, with the usual buzz of conversation among friends and fellow enthusiasts.
Geraldine introduced a series of updates from members of the Steering Group and, staying on the Croome theme, Sara reported that there is one complete ‘Winter’ Panel ready to be displayed at Croome when the installation is set up at the end of December, with a further panel’s worth of segments ready to mount. Members have managed to find time to create and submit more material, including 3D pieces. A further meeting has been arranged with the National Trust team at Croome on 10th January to finalise arrangements. The ‘Spring’ display will be mounted on 16th March so no time take our feet off the pedal!
The arrangements for the Red Dress talk and Exhibition on 28th March are well under way and each member is entitled to a ticket, with additional tickets available to purchase at £10 each, either at the next meeting or from Ticketsource – look out for details in the next newsletter. Tickets were issued to those at the meeting and Elaine G will distribute the remainder at the next two meetings or by post.
Finally, Sharron S has retired from her post as ‘Library Mistress’, having revamped the stock and created a new, simpler system for us to borrow books. She introduced her final selection of new books before handing over her box of treasures to Louise J and Ailsa N.
